Support for Grievance Redressal

Information

IIT Delhi strongly discourages any form of caste based discrimination—whether overt or subtle—against students, staff, or faculty belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) or Scheduled Tribes (ST). All grievances regarding the caste discrimination are taken with utmost seriousness and are investigated promptly in accordance with institutional protocols.

As per the UGC (Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2012, all persons and authorities of the higher educational institutions in the country are prohibited from harassing or victimizing any student -

  1. by announcing, verbally or otherwise, in the class, the names of the castes, tribes, religion or region of the students by labeling students as reserved category in the class;

  2. by passing derogatory remarks indicating caste, social, regional, racial or religious background as reason of under-performance in the class;

  3. by allotting differential time to any student to meet faculty as compared to other students:

  4. by keeping any student idle in the laboratory and not allowing them to work even if they are allowed to enter,

  5. by earmarking separate seats to any student or a group of students in the reading hall;

  6. by following differential treatment to any student regarding issue of, books or journals or magazines, etc.;

  7. by treating any student or section of students separately in utilizing the sports facilities on the basis of their caste, creed, region or religion.

It is recognized that the category status of the students, i.e., SC/ST/OBC, can be a very personal and potentially threatening information. Therefore, any form of bullying and ragging involving category information including any indirect attempts to find out or infer category status of others such as by asking for JEE rank or GATE rank and spreading this information in online or offline platforms is strictly prohibited. In addition, mocking or ridiculing others (including such acts on social media or digital platforms) for their appearance, gender, caste, skin colour, sexual orientation, disability, and English proficiency is also strictly prohibited.

A senior faculty member is appointed as advisor to SC/ST students for advising them on academic and non-academic matters. The institute has also made provisions for anti-discrimination officer to address concerns of SC-ST students, staff and faculty. Efforts are undertaken to assist students belonging to SC and ST categories in overcoming barriers.

If you have experienced or witnessed any such discriminatory behaviour, or if you wish to raise a concern, you are encouraged to reach out to the designated officials listed below. Your grievance will be addressed with the sensitivity, confidentiality, and urgency it deserves.
